Manish Hamal Placed Historic Second Position

Manish Hamal Became First Runner-up In India


Kathmandu, December 13:
Fide Master Manish Hamal of Nepal finished historic second in the 4th HDCA Fide Rating International Chess Tournament in Kolkatta(INDIA) on December 12th. In the tournament for below 2100 Fide Rating, Hamal placed second in Buchholz Tie-Breaking System after tying with Indian player Ajoy Haldar on 8.5 points each out of 10 rounds. He accept the draw offered by Haldar in the 44th move of final round.

It was the historic result ever in the history of Nepal Chess in international playing arena. Before this tournament, Current Nepal Champion Badri Lal Nepali and Shyam Sundar Shrestha had secured fourth position in Jugal Kishore Memorial, Assam(INDIA) and 2nd Mora Kings International in Sri Lanka respectively.
Krishna Thapa placed 16th with seven points, while Herakaji Maharjan(71), Prachanda Malakar(73) and Bijayman Shrestha(83) scoring with six points each.
